Who is Eligible for the PR Card Renewal?
Permanent residents can renew their PR card once it is expired or lost. The only permitted persons for a PR card renewal are permanent residents who have previously lost their card, or it has passed the validity period. Anyone with an expired card will need to renew it as quickly as possible to continue enjoying the benefits of being a permanent resident. In fact, it is advised that the card be renewed before the expiration date.

If you are a permanent resident applying for a new permanent resident card, some of the things you must adhere to include:
- Physical presence in Canada during the time of application
- Own a permanent resident status in the country
- Must be given the authority by the government to stay in Canada legally and not be compelled to leave.
- Must be crime free without any criminal record associated with the PR card.

How to Apply for a PR Card Renewal?
Everyone applying for a PR card renewal needs to start their application by online filling out an IMM 5444 form. Once filled, the form will be submitted with the required documents for the PR card replacement. All stolen, destroyed, expired or lost cards will go through the same process to get a new one. Before completing the application, you need to contact the IRCC, as they also oversee such replacement.
PHOTOS OF YOURSELF
Clear copies of yourself need to be submitted during the process before the PR card renewal can be approved. It is the photos that will be imprinted into your new PR card.
IDENTITY DOCUMENT
Your identity documents should also be submitted when applying for the PR card renewal, as it will help your processing to be done faster.
RECORD WITH YOUR PR CARD
The IRCC will need to validate that the previous PR card wasn’t misused, so you must provide a record before a new one is issued. If there were criminal records on the old PR card, it would affect getting a new PR card.
PASSPORT/TRAVEL DOCUMENTS COPIES
You will need to provide copies of the travel documents as one of the documents needed to be submitted. You need to pay the government a standard fee before the application can be processed. But if you are using the services of an immigration firm like Luthra law, you need to pay a separate fee to them for their help.
