What is a Notary Public?

A notary public is a legal person or official responsible for notarizing legal documents used by the public.

Notary public in Mississauga perform their duties when authorized by the Law Society of Ontario and Notaries Act. All Notaries have equivalent power to the commissioner of oaths which means they can certify the validity of any document. The Notaries in Ontario are usually paralegals or lawyers, and they don’t get paid by the government.

One of the roles of a notary is to notarize all the legal documents that need a rotary signature and seal, and they include;

  • Gifting a vehicle to a family member

While we are available to help you will all the information you need concerning notarizing your documents, we would not be able to give you information concerning the copies that require authentication/ notarization. We suggest that you get this information before coming to our office. 

  • To be certified, you should come along with the original documents and photocopies.
  • You should also bring an identification photo issued by the government, maybe more than one.
  • The identification you come along with must bear your signature on it. 

We advise you not to append your signature or input the date on the documents before getting to our office. We recommend such because the notary must identify and witness you as you append your signature on the papers. We also advise that everything on the document be filled in except the signature and dates.
